The James Trussart Steelcaster Holey - Rust O MaticJames Trussart is one of the worlds most individual and eclectic guitar makers.
A guitar builder since 1980, James Trussart recently moved his operations from Paris to Los Angeles. His unusual approach to guitar building involves crafting custom steel bodied guitars from his home workshop. These are based on Telecaster and Les Paul designs and come in three main finishes chrome, rusty and brushed.
Trussart’s technique for rusting the finishes involves leaving the guitar body exposed to the elements for several weeks, and allowing it to corrode before treating it to stop the corrosion. This results in hand built guitars of unique character.
Trussart’s visual style means these guitars will never be mistaken for anything else. They also have an attention demanding tone and clarity.
Trussart’s guitars look old-school, but his years as a guitar repairman bring a modern touch to them. He knows how to make the old work like new and the new look old. He’s played, repaired and built thousands of guitars and knows what works and what doesn’t.
“You learn from everything that’s come before,” Trussart said. “These guitars are the best of everything I know about my favorite models.”
Everywhere you look in Trussart’s shop there’s a guitar you want to play or a pile of parts you want to see come together. Once all the pieces are on the bench, a guitar takes about two weeks to build. He assembles about 300 a year -
“They’re all different,” he said. “They’re all custom.”
James Trussart guitars are played by many of the world's top pro's, including Eddie Van Halen, Billy Gibbons,Joe Perry,Robert Cray, Rich Robinson, Sonny Landreth, Robert Cray,Billy Corgan,Pearl Jam,Tom Morello,Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood. Hell even Eric Clapton has one !!
