The extending tube mute (also known as an ET, HARMON or WOW mute) has a strong recognisable character and is really versatile as it can be used in 3 ways:
By moving your hand on and off the stem opening you can produce a 'wah wah' sound typical to jazz.
The stem can be removed completely or pushed in to change the muted effect on your instrument.
With the stem completely removed, your trumpet will sound brassy and bright.
