H&B mutes were invented by Willie Berg in 1935 and have proved popular ever since. Stone lining ensures that they hold their tuning even on higher registers. H&B are also known for their free blowing qualities.
The most commonly used mute, the straight mute is used to alter the sound produced by your trumpet/cornet. Usually this mute will produce a more nasally tone with added projection when played with force
