We usually suggest that the player comes into the shop to try out mouthpieces before purchasing as each tip opening and brand can make huge differences.
However, roughly speaking- the wider tip openings such as a 7 and 7 star tend to be used in jazz and the smaller openings such as 5 and 5 star by classical and student players. This is because the smaller the tip opening, the more control the player has and the easier the embouchure is to maintain.
Mouthpieces are supplied with a ligature and cap.
